I am a third generation artist. My inspiration and interest in art comes from a family background of painters and writers. I started painting 25 years ago when I moved to Wheaton, Illinois, so I consider myself a late bloomer. Painting has become my passion, my addiction and I paint every day.

My favorite medium is watercolors, although I also paint with acrylics and pastels. Watercolors are very challenging and unpredictable. You can begin with a concept, and as you express it on the paper it ends up being something completely different. The colors mix by themselves and are transparent. You can wash over any color many times and still see the first color thru.

I believe art, in all its forms, is the expression of the artist as seen through his eyes and heart. Art is feelings expressed on paper or canvas to enjoy what we see. The empty canvas and papers are waiting for me to receive my energy and my feelings.

Flowers and nature are my favorite subjects as inspired by the beautiful tropical flora of my native island, Puerto Rico. I paint in series, since many paintings of the same subject can better capture my feelings. The “Enchanted Forest Series”, “Tropical Series”, abstracts and other paintings can be viewed on my website www.maritzabermudez.com
